With the release of Dr. Martens Bespoke the brand is taking Dr. Martens long-standing history of individualisation to its ultimate conclusion. Centering on two classic styles – the 1460 8-eye boot and the 1461 3-eye shoe – Dr. Martens are offering the opportunity to order a hand-crafted pair, made to an exact customer specification, within the Cobbs Lane factory in Northamptonshire, England.
Having perfected the art of industrial manufacture over the past five decades, a team of craftsmen create each pair by hand to the exact specification supplied by the customer. Dr. Martens can even create a quality last on request so that these particular pairs will quite literally be ‘made like no other shoe on earth’. These lasts can be safely kept in their factory for those customers who may want to come back for future pairs.
The choices on offer are almost limitless; a premium selection of leathers – like genuine Cordovan and Ostrich leathers, linings and seat sock leathers, trims, laces, eyelets, welts, welt stitches and outsoles. There is even the opportunity to select the colour of the famous Dr. Martens heel loop. Sizes will be available from 3 to 13 to cater for both genders, available in half-fittings and three width fittings. Prices start from £225.
Genuine Shell Cordovan shoes are known for their shiny finish, durability, and flexibility - the horse hide leather gives a smooth and polished tight grain aesthetic with excellent durability and shows off the art of tanning at it’s finest. The natural texture of Ostrich leather is renowned for it’s unique and distinctive raised grain feature. All Cordovan and Ostrich leather boots and shoes will be packaged and delivered in a unique walnut veneer hardwood box with wooden shoe trees. To mark the occasion, each pair will be signed and numbered by the craftsmen who have hand-made that boot or shoe.
Dr. Martens Bespoke will be retailed exclusively via a travelling roadshow in the major fashion conurbations of the world: Dover Street Market in London, followed by Beijing and Ginza, Tokyo, as well as premium accounts in Paris and the US. This roadshow will take the form of a partnership trunk with Tanner Krolle, who, like Dr. Martens share a British heritage. The trunk design has been inspired by the classic Oxblood Dr. Martens leather, creating a truly unique and mobile concept that will house all the different components of the bespoke choices available in a statement piece of luggage.
This trunk will be accompanied on its travels by a sales consultant who has been trained within the tradition and exacting standards of Dr. Martens footwear heritage.
