The Dr Martens 1460
The original Doc Martens -- The Dr. Martens 1460, the boot that started it all. The 1460 is the "Doc Martens" boot that moved from ubiquitous working class footwear to became an icon for a series of sub-culture revolutions.
Some 47 years after Dr Martens shoes started coming off the production line, there is still an incredible interest and demand in that original Doc Martens boot, the 1460.
The Dr Martens 1460 boot, which still goes by its original nickname of "cherry reds," or Cherry Red 1460, in many ways symbolize the Dr Martens brand and what Doc Martens boots stands for as a means of self-expression to generations of youth around the world.
The 1460 was named according to its first production date, April 1, 1960 ( or 1 April in European form) and it immediately caught on. Its striking red color and distinctive yellow top-stitching were a dramatic change from the work boots of the time. Dr Martens boots took off in popularity, both among the working class--postmen and policemen especially--and the punks and rockers of 1960s England.
But while the forms of youthful self-expression have gone through countless revolutions, one thing has remained a near-constant: People still cherish the Doc Martens 1460.
